Architecture

Set in the quiet expanse of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe, Common Pine is a purpose-built mass timber hotel that captures the spirit of Truckee, California, through warm materials, a modern alpine form, and a deep connection to the natural world. Our design emphasizes environmental responsibility, wellness, and material authenticity, allowing the structure itself to create moments of reflection and discovery for guests. Inspired by Truckee’s forested surroundings and industrial roots, the hotel design incorporates exposed timber and fluted, warm burnt sienna siding, referencing nearby railroad trestles and celebrating the natural integrity of each material.

This 80,000-SF hotel includes 60 guestrooms and 15 residential-style units, with amenities such as a rooftop bar, wellness center, restaurant, and communal outdoor spaces.

Mass Timber Hotel

Mass timber embodies the ethos of the new mission-driven hospitality brand. Common Pine is founded on the belief that people, the natural world, and the places we create are a part of a single, continuous whole. At Common Pine, mass timber is a reminder of the interconnectedness we all share. As an organic, sustainable material that carries within it the story of growth and change over time, it makes this philosophy tangible, inviting guests to sense their connection to both the spaces around them and the natural world beyond, experiencing the harmony that lies at the heart of the brand’s philosophy.
